My Little Nighttime Ritual + My ‘Sleepy-Time’ Latte

September 26, 2017 by Leah Goldglantz

I’ve been wanting to share my new favorite nighttime ritual with you guys! I recently incorporated two new things into my routine and I’m REALLY loving both! One of them is a ‘sleepy-time turmeric latte’ made with calming herbs and the other is a new toothpaste discovery – Tom’s of Maine luminous white! My nighttime routine now incorporates both of these.

Once I’m all cozy in my pajamas I head into to kitchen to make my new favorite sleepy-time tonic (or that’s what I like to call it). It incorporates some calming herbs and is of course caffeine-free. The ingredients are almond milk (any milk will work), water, turmeric, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, ginger, pepper, coconut butter, honey and ashwagandha. Nutmeg is one of the best herbs for calming the mind, cardamom is soothing to the nervous system and ashwagandha is an adaptogen that helps your body deal with stress. Last but not least, turmeric reduces inflammation, lowers your blood sugar levels, boosts your immune system, helps your liver to detoxify, and is incredible for your digestive system – all important things that will help you get a good night of sleep. I shared the recipe for the tonic at the bottom of this post.

After sipping on my nighttime latte I brush my teeth using my new favorite toothpaste. To be honest my teeth were looking a little yellow lately so I had been searching for the perfect whitening toothpaste for a while now. As you may or may not be aware, I only use non-toxic, natural products and most of the whitening toothpastes on the market are made with ingredients that are FAR from natural. It’s important to read the labels of the products you’re buying – so many toothpastes contain artificial flavors, colors and preservatives – YUK!

I was thrilled when I discovered Tom’s of Maine new luminous white toothpaste. It’s their most advanced whitening toothpaste ever. I truly noticed whiter teeth after using this toothpaste for only 2 weeks, so I can’t imagine how much whiter my teeth will be after one month. This toothpaste removes surface stains (versus regular fluoride toothpaste). It’s also safe on Enamel and safe for everyday use. The toothpaste is made up of biodegradable or mineral-derived ingredients and contains no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. I can now feel more confident when I smile instead of being insecure about my teeth being a bit yellow.

I love Tom’s of Maine products for many reasons. They believe truly natural products are better for your body and the environment, which aligns so well with my beliefs. I always want to support companies that have similar beliefs as I do. I know that I’ll never find potentially harmful ingredients in their products. All Tom’s of Maine natural personal care and oral care products are made with no artificial colors, flavors, fragrances or preservatives, I also love that they’ll never test their ingredients or products on animals. Another positive: all Tom’s of Maine packaging in recyclable! Last but not least, 10% of profits go to human and environmental goodness.

Creamy chia pudding with all the toppings - love t Creamy chia pudding with all the toppings - love this for a satisfying breakfast! Chia seeds are packed with fiber and most of us don’t get enough fiber in our diets...

To make the chia pudding: in a blender add 1 cup almond milk, 1/4 cup chia seeds & 1/2 ripe banana (the banana is optional, but I love that it naturally sweetens it & makes it nice and creamy. Blend then pour into a jar and refrigerate overnight (or for at least an hour). Add desired toppings. I love fresh berries, grain-free granola & hemp seeds. Love some almond butter drizzled on top too!

I remember about two years ago I had a cough that I remember about two years ago I had a cough that was lingering so I went to a doctor that I had never been to before just to get checked out and make sure everything was okay. The doctor spent under 5 minutes with me, barely checked me out and almost immediately wrote me a prescription for an antibiotic. I was questioning why I was taking an antibiotic and he didn’t really take the time to explain and rushed off to another patient. I trusted my gut instinct that I didn’t need an antibiotic (I am definitely open to taking them was necessary), and 5 days later my cough went away on its own. I could dive deeper into this, but wanted to share that I am so glad I have found a doctor that spends adequate time with me - whenever I need - for as long as I need. You deserve that!! We all deserve that.

I’m so lucky to be in such great hands with @steadymd - they’re an online doctor that’s available via an app on your phone and you can reach out with anything anytime! I spent over an hour last week on the phone with my functional MD going over bloodwork. All of my questions were thoroughly answered. A functional MD is the best fit for ME (my doc takes a whole person approach to health & understands things like training, recovery & nutrition), but whats so great is SteadyMD matches you with a doctor that aligns with YOU and your specific medical needs, diet, lifestyle and goals, not just someone who's local based on a quick quiz you take!

SteadyMD is so convenient and refreshing and is EXACTLY what I've been looking for in a doctor. Plus it's super convenient - No co-pays. No waiting rooms. Just unlimited access to a doctor who “gets” you.

Click the link in my bio or visit steadymd.com/leahsplate to get started.

Thank you so much to SteadyMD for partnering on this post! I’m so grateful to partner with a company I believe in so much 🤍
